Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue

Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue is a volunteer SAR group based in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada. As one of over 80 SAR groups in BC, we respond to calls from local law enforcement to wilderness and urban searches and rescues. Golden Ears Provincial Park, in our response area, is the location of many of our responses.

Ridge Meadows SAR was requested by BCAS to respond to Golden Ears Park for a report of an injured hiker. The subject's friend had flagged down a Ridge Meadows Recycling truck and reported that his friend was injured in the bush. Rick, team manager for RMSAR, contacted Lorne at RM Recycling by phone. After speaking with his driver, it was determined that the subject was already in the care of BCAS. Rick then contacted dispatch at BCAS who confirmed that they did have the subject. The rest of the team was stood down prior to assembling.
 
Lost Hikers in Malcolm Knapp Forest

On Sunday July 26thm 2009 RMSAR received a call from the RCMP to search for two hikers who had called in on their cellphone stating that they were lost in Malcolm Knapp Research Forest. The subjects had lost the trail and were in the bush near a cliff. RCMP Air 5 was in the area and was able to respond to assist. We were able to give them an approximate location and they were then able to locate the subjects. Air 5 returned to base and picked up two SAR members and dropped them in above the subjects. The SAR members then hiked to the subjects and escorted them to the helicopter where they were flown out to the search base. Both subjects were fine and had sustained no injuries.

On Sunday July 19, we received a requested from the RCMP to respond to Pitt River for 4 girls who were stranded on Goose Bar. From the call received, it was unclear whether their boat motor wouldn't start or they had been left on the island. Our boat crew was initially unable to locate subjects until cellphone communication was re-established. Once contact was made, the subjects were quickly located and transported back to shore.

On May 3rd, we were requested by Ridge Meadows RCMP to search the Pitt River for a missing person thought to possibly have jumped from the Pitt River Bridge. Three members, using the SAR Hovercraft "Ridge 4", searched the banks of Pitt River, around bridge pilings, log booms and other areas upstream and downstream of the bridge. Nothing relevant was located and the search was stood down.

On February 1, 2009, three members of RMSAR took the hovercraft on a training exercise exploring the craft's capabilities in the upper Pitt River. Although a bit cool and rainy, there was very little wind that day.

Search for Despondent Female

RMSAR was requested by the Ridge MeadowsRCMP to search for a despondent female. The subject was located as we were enroute.
