Missing Hiker near Mike Lake PDF Print
Thursday, 21 January 2010
We were paged by RCMP to search for a missing 67 year old male who had called in on his cell phone stating that he had lost the trail near Mike Lake in Golden Ears Park. The team assembled at the Mike Lake parking lot and set up the Command Post. The RCMP helicopter "Air One" was tasked to fly the area with their FLIR. Several family members and friends were also in the area searching for our subject. Their locations were unknown to us. As SAR members were being assigned to their search areas, a call came in from the helicopter that they had located a single human heat source at the west end of Mike Lake. Two teams were reassigned to locate what could possibly be our subject. After some directions from the helicopter, one of the teams met up with the target who was determined to be a friend of the subject. Upon learning this, Command began re-assigning teams to their original assignments. Shortly after, a SAR member arrived on scene after having picked up our subject walking along the road. He was none the worse for wear and was reunited with his friends and family.
